My Bio

Hello and welcome to my online gallery. My name is Jon-Laurence and I am a Freelance Graphic Designer, Stage Actor, Social Worker, and Writer currently residing in central Georgia (U.S.A.) and managing a local theatre for the Performance Arts (www.theatremacon.com). I am self-taught in that I have had no formal training in any aspect of the visual arts. Simply stated, creating these works bring me peace and grant me a sense of spiritual serenity. My techniques and execution are inspired by the dark/modern age of comics; manga/manhua/manwha; corporate art; the surrealist, magical realism, and biomechanical movements, respectively; and nature herself (among other things!).

The majority of my creations consist of collages, freehand drawings, re-rendered digital renderings, and paintings that are scanned, uploaded, and then digitally manipulated utilizing a variety of software until the desired results are achieved. However, that is not to say that I do not also dabble in the more traditional art forms such as watercolour and oil painting. Most of my works find their inspiration from the realms of science-fiction, fantasy, religion, women, and the ever-growing prevalence of hyper-capitalism in Western Civilization.

I share my work with you in the hope that these pieces may entertain and enlighten.

The greatest respect that any one civilization can pay to another is complete annihilation. Such an act would imply the fear of the former (civilization A) in being surpassed by the latter (civilization B). Thus it can be equated to the acknowledgement by civilization A that civilization B has or will have the potential to surpass and/or destroy civilization A. In this way, civilization A acknowledges that civilization B is inherently superior such that the destruction of civilization a is inevitable over any significant period of time. For these reasons, civilization A has no choice but to destroy any and all civilizations that it acknowledges as having the seeds for superiority. Any civilization not requiring immediate destruction by civilization A can be perceived as infinitely inferior to the point of not even having the potential to surpass civilization A. So what greater respect can be paid by one civilization to another than total annihilation? none.

James Hall, Jim to his friends, Copapa to his family, was a mighty Man with tree trunks for arms and hair like fire. Six foot two and despite the trials and tribulations of age, he never shrank an inch. I gave him the name "Copapa" at an age where I was still formulating language and could not (would not?) call him "grandpa". Little did I know how appropriate the name "Copapa" would be as throughout the lives of my sister and I, he was indeed a 'co-parent', a second father...as such, that is how I have and will continue to refer to him. Where do I begin? When he was a boy, he would hurriedly past scowling Japanese POWs imprisoned within the POW camp whilst making his often-frigid daily trek to school in Michigan. As a young man, Copapa hunted hurricanes with the Navy WEARECORON FOUR (W-4) Weather Reconnaissance Squadron Four, "Hurricane Hunters" crewing the Lockheed EC-121 Warning Star As a seasoned man, he faced trials and tribulations with love and marriage.
